A decade of learning, hacking and community.
ENUSEC did not start as a polished organisation. It started with a handful of people who wanted to learn more, build things and have someone to talk to when the thing broke.
Built by people who wanted to learn together.
That thread runs through everything we do. The rooms, formats and committee names have changed, but the good part has stayed the same: people showing up, helping each other and leaving with a new idea to chase.
A society takes shape
A few students and staff at Edinburgh Napier start meeting around a shared interest in security. ENUSEC grows from that small group, with a simple ambition: give people somewhere to learn, share half-finished ideas and find their people.
Le Tour Du Hack begins
We take that same energy and turn it into Le Tour Du Hack, a face-to-face weekend CTF for students around Edinburgh. The event's own archive remembers its roots as a meetup of about 30 students. It was small, scrappy and already a lot of fun.
Challenges get serious
By 2019, the CTF had become properly ambitious: more than 65 challenges, released in three waves, across web, hardware, crypto, forensics and more. The scoreboard mattered, but so did the conversations around it and the writeups that came afterwards.
Learning keeps moving
When the world got strange, the learning did not stop. The ENUSEC blog filled with FreshersCTF 2020 writeups and member research on everything from SSL pinning to application security and the SolarWinds backdoor.
Back to building together
We get back in the room. Le Tour Du Hack returns to an in-person format, and the practical competition tradition carries on through a public Freshers' CTF 2023 repository. Newcomers keep finding their way in by trying things.
Ten years of ENUSEC
Ten years is a big milestone. Le Tour Du Hack 2025 celebrates it with two days of talks, three conference tracks, keynotes, panels, workshops and a dedicated CTF day at Edinburgh Napier University's Craiglockhart campus. The small idea had travelled a long way.
The next chapter
There is more to come. Le Tour Du Hack will return in 2027, with further information to be announced at ltdh.enusec.org in due course.
Learn out loud
Trying, breaking, fixing and explaining things is where the learning sticks. Nobody has to pretend they know everything.
Leave room for beginners
Students, graduates, practitioners and curious newcomers all have a place here. Everyone starts somewhere.
Keep the fun in it
The best part of security is still the people, the shared struggle and the moment when something finally works.
Help write what comes next.
Come to a meetup, bring a challenge, share a project or just join the conversation. ENUSEC's next chapter is built the same way as the first: one curious person at a time.
